*Hymn of Praise #331 “Come, O Come, Thou Quickening Spirit”

1 Come, O come, thou quick'ning Spirit,

God from all eternity!

May thy power never fail us;

swell within us constantly.

Then shall truth and life and light

banish all the gloom of night.

2 Grant our hearts in fullest measure

wisdom, counsel, purity,

that we ever may be seeking

only that which pleaseth thee.

Let thy knowledge spread and grow,

working error's overthrow.

3 Show us, Lord, the path of blessing;

when we trespass on our way,

cast, O Lord, our sins behind thee

and be with us day by day.

Should we stray, O Lord, recall;

work repentance when we fall.

4 Holy Spirit, strong and mighty,

thou who makest all things new,

make thy work within us perfect

and the evil foe subdue.

Grant us weapons for the strife

and with vict'ry crown our life.

Communion Sunday Confession of Faith (Apostle’s Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under  Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From there, he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Intercessory Prayer & Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we  forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us  from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,  forever. Amen.

Offertory

*The Doxology

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures  here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son,  and Holy Ghost.

Sermon Text Mark 2:1-12 Page 837

Sermon “Who Can Forgive Sins but God Alone” Dr. Drew DiNardo *Hymn of Response #164 “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing”

1 O for a thousand tongues to sing

my great Redeemer's praise,

the glories of my God and King,

the triumphs of his grace.

2 My gracious Master and my God,

assist me to proclaim,

to spread through all the earth abroad

the honors of thy name.

3 Jesus, the name that charms our fears,

that bids our sorrows cease;

'tis music in the sinner's ears,

'tis life and health and peace.

4 He breaks the pow'r of reigning sin,

he sets the pris'ner free;

his blood can make the foulest clean,

his blood availed for me.

5 He speaks and, list'ning to his voice,

new life the dead receive;

the mournful, broken hearts rejoice;

the humble poor believe.

6 Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb,

your loosen'd tongues employ;

ye blind, behold your Savior come;

and leap, ye lame, for joy.

A Reading from God’s Law with a Response from the Gospels

You shall have no other gods before me.

It is written: "Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only."  (Luke 4:8)

You shall not make for yourself an idol.

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in  truth. (John 4:24)

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

"Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or  by the earth, for it is his footstool. . . . Let your 'Yes' be 'Yes', and  your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."  (Matthew 5:34-37)

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the  Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27-28) Honor your father and your mother.

For God said, "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be  put to death." (Matthew 15:4)

You shall not murder.

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:44–45) You shall not commit adultery.

Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed  adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:28)

You shall not steal.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery . . .  theft . . . . These are what make a man "unclean." (Matthew 15:19) You shall not give false testimony.

For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. . . . For by  your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be  condemned. (Matthew 12:34, 37)

You shall not covet.

Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's  life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. (Luke  12:15)

Confession Of Sin and Supplication for Grace

O LORD of Hosts, you who test the righteous, and see the heart and  the mind, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.  We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own  hearts. We have not obeyed your holy laws. But you, O Lord, have  mercy upon us. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore those  who repent according to your promises in Christ Jesus our Lord.  And grant, O most merciful Father, that we may live a godly,  righteous, and faithful life, to the glory of your holy name. In Jesus’  name we pray, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

*Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it  was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

*Hymn of Communion Praise Book #12 “He Was Pierced. . .”

He was pierced for our transgressions;

He was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on Him,

and by His wounds we are healed.

We all like sheep have gone a-stray,

each of us has turned to his own way

and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

The Lord’s Supper (All Bread is Gluten Free)

*Closing Hymn #304 “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say”

1 I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest; lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast." I came to Jesus as I was, weary and worn and sad;

I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad.

2 I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give

the living water; thirsty one, stoop down and drink, and live." I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream;

my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.

3 I heard the voice of Jesus say, "I am this dark world's Light; look unto me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright." I looked to Jesus and I found in him my Star, my Sun;

and in that light of life I'll walk, till trav'ling days are done.
