*Call to Worship (Adapted from Psalm 121:1-2)
One: I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
All: My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
One: Let us worship the Lord who keeps His people–now and forever.
Invocation
*Hymn 498 “Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!”
1 Jesus! what a Friend for sinners!
Jesus! lover of my soul;
friends may fail me, foes assail me,
he, my Savior, makes me whole.
Refrain:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!
Hallelujah, what a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
he is with me to the end.
2 Jesus! what a strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in him;
tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, he, my strength, my vict'ry wins. [Refrain]
3 Jesus! what a help in sorrow!
While the billows o'er me roll,
even when my heart is breaking,
he, my comfort, helps my soul. [Refrain]
4 Jesus! what a guide and keeper!
While the tempest still is high,
storms about me, night o'ertakes me, he, my pilot, hears my cry. [Refrain]
5 Jesus! I do now receive him,
more than all in him I find;
he hath granted me forgiveness,
I am his, and he is mine. [Refrain]
Call to Confession
Time of Silent Confession
Words of Assurance
*The Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
*3rd Sunday Confession of Faith (Heidelberg Catechism Q&A #1) Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
- That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready, from now on, to live for him.
Psalter Reading (Psalm 66) Page 807 Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
“So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.”
“All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.”
Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s behalf!
He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot—come, let us rejoice in him.
He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations—let not the rebellious rise up against him. Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;
he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.
For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver.
You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.
You let men ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.
I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you—vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.
Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.
I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.
Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!
Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Offertory “When We are Living. . .” arr. J. Raney
When we are living, it is in Christ Jesus,
and when we’re dying, it is in the Lord.
Both in our living and in our dying, we belong to God. (Paraphrase of Romans 14:8)

Sermon “Who Then is This?” Dr. Drew DiNardo
*Closing Hymn 691 “It Is Well with My Soul”
1 When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
"It is well, it is well with my soul."
Refrain:
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.
2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control,
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul. [Refrain]
3 My sin– O the bliss of this glorious thought!–
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! [Refrain]
4 O Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; "Even so"– it is well with my soul. [Refrain]
*Benediction
*Congregation Three-fold Amen
*Postlude “Allegro Maestoso” from Symphony VI Ch. M. Widor
