*Hymn of Praise #115 “All Creatures of our God and King”
1 All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice with us and sing
alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
2 O rushing wind that art so strong,
ye clouds that sail in heav'n along,
O praise him, alleluia!
Thou rising morn in praise rejoice,
ye lights of evening, find a voice,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
3 Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
make music for thy Lord to hear,
alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire, so masterful and bright
that givest man both warmth and light,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
4 And all ye men of tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye, alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
praise God and on him cast your care,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
5 Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, three in one.
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Communion Sunday Confession of Faith (Apostle’s Creed)
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried, he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Intercessory Prayer & Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Offertory “I Need Thee Ev’ry Hour” arr. J. Crosby (Jocelyn Crosby, flute)
*The Doxology
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Sermon Text Mark 5:21-34 Page 840
Sermon Title “Faith in Jesus in the Face of Hopelessness” (Part 1) Dr. Drew DiNardo
*Hymn of Response #472 “Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Wretched”
1 Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity joined with pow'r: he is able, he is able, he is able, he is willing; doubt no more; he is willing; doubt no more.
2 Come, ye needy, come and welcome, God's free bounty glorify; true belief and true repentance, ev'ry grace that brings you nigh, without money, without money, without money,
come to Jesus Christ and buy; come to Jesus Christ and buy.
3 Come, ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and broken by the fall; if you tarry till you're better, you will never come at all:
not the righteous, not the righteous, not the righteous–
sinners Jesus came to call; sinners Jesus came to call.
4 Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream; all the fitness he requireth is to feel your need of him;
this he gives you, this he gives you, this he gives you;
'tis the Spirit's rising beam; 'tis the Spirit's rising beam.
5 Lo! th'incarnate God, ascended, pleads the merit of his blood; venture on him, venture wholly, let no other trust intrude: none but Jesus, none but Jesus, none but Jesus can do helpless sinners good, can do helpless sinners good.
A Reading from God’s Law with a Response from the Epistles
You shall have no other gods before me.
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! (Romans 11:36)
You shall not make for yourself an idol.
In Christ we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:14– 15)
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-- the fruit of lips that confess his name. (Hebrews 13:15)
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16) Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. (Colossians 3:20)
You shall not murder.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)
You shall not commit adultery.
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:20)
You shall not steal.
He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his hands, so that he may have something to share with those in need. (Ephesians 4:28)
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. (Ephesians 4:15)
You shall not covet your neighbor's house or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. (Philippians 4:11)
Confession Of Sin And Supplication For Grace
Almighty God, we are unworthy to come into your presence, because of our many sins. We do not deserve any grace or mercy from you, if you dealt with us as we deserve. We have sinned against you, O Lord,
and we have offended you. We have broken your law. And yet, O Lord, as we acknowledge our sins and offenses, so also do we acknowledge you to be a merciful God, a loving and favorable Father, to all who turn to you. And so, we humbly ask you, for the sake of Christ your son, to show mercy to us, and forgive us all our offenses. Forgive the sins of our youth, and the sins of our old age. By your
Spirit, O God, take possession of our hearts, so that, not only the actions of our life, but also the words of our mouths, and the smallest thought of our minds, may be guided and governed by you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
*Hymn of Communion #427 “Amidst Us Our Beloved Stands”
1 Amidst us our Beloved stands, and bids us view his pierced hands; points to the wounded feet and side, blest emblems of the Crucified.
2 What food luxurious loads the board, when at this table sits the Lord! The wine how rich, the bread how sweet, when Jesus deigns the guests to meet!
3 If now, with eyes defiled and dim, we see the signs, but see not him; O may his love the scales displace, and bid us see him face to face!
4 O glorious Bridegroom of our hearts, your present smile a heav’n imparts!
O lift the veil, if veil there be, let every saint your glory see!
The Lord’s Supper (All Bread is Gluten Free)
*Closing Hymn #528 “My Faith Looks Up to Thee”
1 My faith looks up to thee, thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine; now hear me while I pray,
take all my guilt away, O let me from this day be wholly thine.
2 May thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire; as thou hast died for me,
O may my love to thee pure, warm, and changeless be, a living fire.
3 While life's dark maze I tread, and griefs around me spread, be thou my guide; bid darkness turn to day,
wipe sorrow's tears away, nor let me ever stray from thee aside.
4 When ends life's transient dream, when death's cold, sullen stream shall o'er me roll, blest Savior, then, in love, fear and distrust remove; O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul.
*Benediction
*Congregation Three-fold Amen
